PANIC ATTACKS, HOW TO FACE THEM - Many people in their life experience at least once a panic attack, that very bad moment in which for a few seconds or for a few minutes you almost feel like you are dying. THE symptoms may be different: tremor, feeling of suffocation, tachycardia, fear of going crazy or fainting, hot flashes, chills or whatever.

It can be a sporadic episode in our life or instead it happens recurrently especially in periods in which we are particularly stressed, we are repressing our deepest emotions or simply we feel weaker and insecure. The experience is often unexpected and many people, precisely because they do not understand what is happening and what they have to face, go worried to the emergency room where the medical staff is sure that it is not a symptomatology due to clinical pathologies but "simply" to the nervous system and tranquilizers and anxiolytics are administered.

When these symptoms appear it is necessary always wondering why and if you want to prevent the reappearance get to the bottom of the problem. A method that has certainly proved to be excellent is to undertake a short ppsychological course avoiding medicines if possible and perhaps with the help of some natural remedies. Let's see what are the options that can be considered:

COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY

If the phenomenon of panic attacks and anxiety is recurrent, it is good to ask for help from a specialist. In recent years it has been seen that excellent results can be obtained for this type of problem with cognitive behavioral therapy, usually of very short duration and on a weekly basis. During the sessions, the psychotherapist guides the patient on a path that will allow him to break those thought mechanisms and vicious circles that are at the root of the problem and will offer him exercises to do at home to practice "riding his own tiger".

YOGA AND BREATHING TECHNIQUES

Sometimes, to banish our fears, it may be enough to go inside ourselves and breathe deeply for a few minutes reconnecting with that strength that everyone has within him. To learn how to do this, you can learn breathing techniques or sign up for a yoga class. These disciplines, if practiced regularly, help the nervous system to be relaxed and strong, so it is easier to face all the challenges of life with the right degree of energy and without fear.

MAGNESIUM

Not everyone knows that sometimes panic attacks can be generated from a lack of magnesium, a mineral essential for the good balance of the nervous system. Often, especially if we do not follow a balanced and healthy diet, we cannot get all the magnesium we need with food, especially if we are experiencing a period of strong anxiety and stress. Here then it could be useful to take a magnesium supplement to cope with this situation and avoid the onset of panic attacks. Generally, if anxiety is also fueled by magnesium deficiency, 2 or 3 weeks are enough to already feel a marked improvement.

BACH FLOWERS

Many people find it beneficial to use some specific Bach flowers for anxiety episodes and panic attacks. In pole position is the Rescue Remedy, a blend of different flowers, designed by Doctor Bach specifically for emergencies, including those in which one suddenly loses control of oneself. However, this is not a remedy meant to be used for long periods, but only for sporadic episodes of anxiety and panic attacks. Other Bach flowers that can be considered in these cases are Rock Rose, suitable for situations where terror takes over, Aspen, for those who are "afraid of being afraid" and in general for all cases where they fear something indefinite or Cherry Plum if there is fear of losing reason and self-control. 3/4 drops of the preparation under the tongue is the recommended dose that can be taken several times a day.

PHYTOTHERAPY PRODUCTS

Both in the pharmacy and in the herbalist's shop there are different products based on plants and herbs with calming and relaxing properties. These they can be hired in advance in periods in which you experience particular anxiety and strong stress or, especially herbal drops, they can be used when needed and therefore they should always be carried with you when it is considered possible that a panic attack will occur (for example in the bus, at the cinema, in general in closed places, too crowded or on the contrary outdoors). The preparations usually contain passion flower, lemon balm, valerian, chamomile, linden, hawthorn, etc. Ask your trusted herbalist for advice on the most practical solution for you.

ESSENTIAL OIL OF LAVENDER OR CHAMOMILE

Precisely in the moment of the panic attack but also preventively, essential oils can be used with a calming effect such as that of lavender or that of chamomile. They are used by pouring a few drops on a handkerchief and breathing deeply, or in cases where they are needed more quickly smelling the perfume directly from the bottle. If, on the other hand, you are at home and you feel agitated and in a tachycardia, pour 5/6 drops into a diffuser inside a room, sit or lie down and breathe deeply.

OTHER TIPS

Avoid coffee, black tea and all energy drinks caffeine based, also limit the chocolate, especially if dark as it still stimulates the nervous system. Instead, opt for a diet based on fruit, vegetables, legumes and whole grains to ensure that the body is well mineralized.

I close by telling you that even if you are suffering from panic attacks, know and keep in mind that from this situation it comes out, even if it can take more or less time. You just have to find the right path! As for the remedies, however, if you have experienced any, let us know how you found yourself.
