Tiredness, swollen legs and more: have you ever thought that many of the symptoms you experience throughout the day could be attributable to poor circulation? Yes, because unlike what is thought, a non-ideal circulation is not only the prerogative of older people.

That is, it is a question that does not depend only on the passage of time. There are several risk groups, with very different age groups. Therefore, it is clear that poor circulation can also affect people in certain health conditions or with poor lifestyle habits.

Skin changes

The skin is an organ that reflects very well the alterations that occur within our organism. Therefore, when spots even of a certain pigmentation appear in some areas of the body, it can be a sign of poor circulation. The most common areas where “spots” of poor circulation appear are the legs and feet. These spots can be red or purplish in color.

In other cases, however, the skin may appear excessively pale or bluish and the most affected areas may be the nose, lips, ears, nipples, hands or feet.

Skin changes may be accompanied by other symptoms, such as excessive dryness of the skin. While dryness isn't usually associated with poor circulation, it doesn't hurt to take this into account.

Swelling in the feet

In case of poor circulation, the extremities are the last to receive the supply of oxygen and nutrients provided by the blood. Since the blood does not arrive in the same quantity, the body tries to compensate for the "failure" by accumulating fluids. A phenomenon also known as edema.

Edema, in turn, produces cyanosis. This means that, in addition to becoming bluish, the feet will regularly swell and the toes will appear bruised.

Weak hair and nails

Hair loss and weak nails can be a symptom of many things, from stress to a nutritional deficiency. However, they can also indicate poor circulation.

In this sense, if the hair and nails do not get the oxygen and nutrients they need, they will weaken and fall out easily.

Slow digestion

The digestive process requires good blood flow in order to properly reach term. Therefore, when it seems excessively heavy and accompanied by:

This is the best known symptom of poor circulation: the feeling of cold in the hands and feet. This signal indicates that blood circulation is slower in these parts of the body, because the blood takes longer to reach them.

Chronic fatigue

Extreme chronic fatigue is another symptom of poor circulation. This is due to the fact that the heart must pump with more force (therefore an overload) in order to facilitate the venous return and thus maintain the functioning of the organism.
When there is a scarce amount of oxygen and nutrients when climbing stairs or doing some light exercise, fatigue and discomfort will appear. This is largely due to the lack of oxygen that the muscles receive.

How to avoid bad blood circulation?

Poor blood circulation can be prevented and combated with a healthy lifestyle, good diet and regular exercise. In short, nothing new! Healthy habits will always help prevent not only poor circulation but more serious problems, such as, heart attacks, varicose veins, blood clots and even strokes.
