Drinking matcha tea could be helpful in alleviating symptoms related to anxiety disorders, as well as improving and preserving cognitive function.

According to a new study from the University of Kumamoto in Japan, the powder obtained by finely grinding tea leaves (Camellia sinensis) would have relaxing properties thanks to an action on dopamine and serotonin receptors, neurotransmitters involved in mood regulation.

The medicinal use of matcha tea is widespread in Japan, where it has long been used to help people relax, as well as to prevent obesity and to soothe skin ailments.

This new research, although it has given preliminary results yet to be investigated, seems to confirm i benefits of matcha tea on mood, explaining its pharmacological activity.

Other studies in the past have investigated properties of matcha tea for health. In several researches, the consumption of this tea has shown an improvement in attention, memory and reaction time, even in elderly patients. In this case, the activity is given by the presence of different components including caffeine, more abundant in matcha tea than in green tea leaves.

Macha tea also contains theanine, an amino acid capable of enhancing the stimulating action of caffeine, without the side effects associated with the consumption of other preparations that contain this molecule, such as nervousness and insomnia.

Consuming macha tea regularly could therefore improve mood, reduce anxiety and agitation and preserve cognitive functions and brain health.
