What are essential oils

We can describe the essential oils like the volatile odorous part extracted from plants. Essential oils can come from different parts of a vegetable, such as from flowers, fruits, rinds, leaves or bark. Among the most famous and used essential oils we find Lavender essential oil and Tea Tree essential oil.

Each essential oil is characterized by specific properties that make it useful for different applications, from aromatherapy to promote a good mood to fumigations for colds, from headache treatment to massages to relax muscles and much more.

Diffusion of essential oils

We can use essential oils in a room diffuser to perfume the rooms of the house, to create a relaxing or energizing atmosphere or to purify the air and prevent disease. They are enough 4 or 5 drops of essential oil to be poured on a saucer that you will place near the radiator or a heat source. You can also pour the drops of essential oils into the diffuser container along with a small amount of water (follow the instructions for your diffuser).

Suffumigi with essential oils

To make the fumigations in case of cold o stuffy nose paid 6 drops of essential oil in a pot or bowl of boiling water and breathe in the vapors. Inhaling essential oils is not recommended for asthmatics.

Essential oils on the handkerchief

The fumigations with essential oils are wet inhalations, while when we pour essential oils on a handkerchief we have a dry inhalation. Just pour 2 or 3 drops of essential oil on a handkerchief and breathe deeply, even several times a day.

Pure essential oils on the skin

Better to apply the pure essential oils on the skin only in an emergency and when we need a quick effect. The quantity of essential oils to be applied pure on the skin does not exceed 3 or 5 drops to be massaged on the wrist, in the crook of the elbow or under the sole of the foot, where the skin is thinnest. At these points, essential oils quickly enter the bloodstream.

Essential oil packs

Essential oil wraps are prepared by soaking gauze in hot water or cold water and adding on the gauze itself 3 to 6 drops of essential oil. The application time of the pack, the choice of hot or cold water and the type of essential oils vary according to the problem to be treated. Essential oil packs are useful for pain, inflammation, hives, insect bites, herpes ...

Massages with essential oils

To make massages with essential oils they are diluted from 4 to 6 drops of the essential oil of your choice in 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil (e.g. sweet almond oil). Massages with essential oils are especially useful for muscle fatigue, muscle pain, cellulite, circulatory problems and the need to relax. Among the most suitable essential oils for relaxing massages we find officinal lavender, marjoram, mandarin and Roman chamomile.

Bath, shower and foot bath with essential oils

Adding essential oils to bath or foot bath water is one of the most common uses for these natural remedies. Here are the right doses. For the bathroom: 10 drops of essential oil mixed with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil or shower gel (better if lightly perfumed or without perfume). For the foot bath: 6 drops (for adults) or 4 drops (for children) of essential oil in a teaspoon of liquid detergent or vegetable oil. For the shower: 1 or 2 drops of essential oil in a normal dose of shower gel to be measured by hand.

Dose variations

The doses of essential oils may vary both on the basis of the type of essential oil chosen, and on the basis of the problem to be treated. The advice is to always buy high quality essential oils to use under the guidance of the herbalist and pharmacist.
