Symptoms

Candidiasis can lead to poor absorption of nutrients and, in the long run, to a state of malnutrition. When the fungus multiplies abnormally, it can reach the bloodstream and release its spores throughout the body, leading to the onset of candidemia, the symptoms of which can be represented by food intolerances, fatigue, irritability, insomnia, intestinal malfunction, slowed digestion, headache and depression.

An excessive proliferation of candida usually affects women more significantly, leading to the appearance of diseases that can affect the skin, the oral cavity (in this case we also speak of "thrush"), or the vaginal area, to which the proliferating fungus can easily have access due to its proximity to the terminal part of the intestine.

Among the symptoms of candidiasis we can find skin infections, the appearance of white and foul-smelling discharge in the vaginal area, conjunctivitis, sore throat, tingling, colitis, constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, abdominal pain, muscle and joint pain , bladder infections and kidney infections. To this could also be added a real syndrome capable of leading to an abnormal and continuous desire for sweets, accompanied by difficulties in concentration and memory, as well as mood swings.

The causes

The causes that can lead to an excessive proliferation of candida are numerous and can be linked to particular states of life, such as pregnancy. Among the main culprits we find an incorrect diet, excessively rich in sugars. There are some medicines which can compromise intestinal balance and favor the onset of candidiasis. Among them we find antibiotics, capable of leading to the destruction of the natural bacterial flora whose main task is to control the presence of fungi such as candida itself.

Other drugs that can favor its appearance are oral contraceptives and antacids. The use of nystatin, an antifungal drug whose prolonged intake can make mushrooms increasingly resistant, at the same time weakening the immune system, is also under accusation. Other factors that can favor candida are represented by diabetes, smoking and the presence of allergies or food intolerances. Between causes of vaginal candidiasis there may be an alteration of the pH, usually acidic, which due to physiological imbalances could turn towards basic values and favor infection.

The remedies

The remedies to combat candida mainly concern a modification of the diet, which allows to inhibit the excessive proliferation of this fungus. All activities that can help promote the elimination of toxins by the body are recommended, with particular reference to regular physical activity and abundant water intake. Take probiotics it could be useful for contributing to the regulation of the functionality of the intestinal bacterial flora, which will thus be able to act in such a way as to keep the levels of the presence of candida under control. In this way, the intestine will again be able to produce substances suitable for combating the presence of harmful microorganisms.

In some cases it may be useful to contact natural supplements and herbal remedies to solve the problem of candidiasis. It is good to ask your herbalist for advice regarding the possibility of using tea tree essential oil, or products based on it, in the event of having to fight a vaginal candidiasis. The appearance of candida can be recurrent. It is therefore useful to try to attack it on all fronts, taking care of the diet and turning above all to natural remedies and homeopathic, to be used under the guidance of an expert. Between herbal remedies we find clove essential oil, tea tree essential oil, echinacea and ointments based on chamomile, sage or calendula.

Recommended foods

A diet designed specifically to combat candida must be formulated by an expert. We therefore limit ourselves to indicating some foods that they are usually recommended or not recommended in similar cases. Recommended foods, which should not cause problems or make the situation worse, include, for example, all low-carbohydrate foods, such as meat and fish. The duration and drasticity of the diet may vary from person to person and depending on the severity of the infection.

Foods not recommended

Among the foods commonly not recommended in the case of candida are sugars, with particular reference to refined sugars and sweet foods, whose consumption should be very limited in the first weeks of carrying out a specific diet against candida. In fact, sugars favor their proliferation. Foods containing yeast and fermented foods, such as bread, pizza, beer, cheese, and soy sauce, should also be limited. Also not recommended are peanuts, smoked meat, mushrooms, coffee, black tea and beer. The consumption of dairy products should be limited.
