Salsa tzatziki: the original recipe

prepare la tzatziki salsa according to a recipe that is as close as possible to the original version, you will need:

  • 250 gr of Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 teaspoons of chopped dill
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 teaspoon of vinegar
  • 1 pinch of salt

Slice the cucumber into very small cubes, without peeling it, or chop it with a coarse grater and let it drain. Finely chop the garlic and dill. Mix it greek yogurt and the extra virgin olive oil with energy using a spoon and a whisk. Add salt, vinegar, minced garlic, dill, a pinch of salt, mix and serve.

Salsa tzatziki piccante

This spicy variation of tzatziki sauce involves replacing garlic with Chili pepper. It is suitable for those who prefer the spicy taste as an alternative to the strong flavor of garlic. You can follow the original recipe by removing the garlic and adding one or two chopped hot peppers. Alternatively you can flavor the tzatziki sauce (with or without garlic) with chilli powder or with the paprika powder.

Salsa tzatziki vegan

To prepare the salsa tzatziki in vegan version just replace the Greek yogurt with white soy yogurt (or other vegetable yogurt), better if it is not sweetened yogurt. For a very simple version of the vegan tzatziki sauce, simply add 250 chopped cucumber, 1 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and 2 or 1 chopped garlic cloves to 2 grams of vegetable yogurt. If you want you can also add a little vinegar and dill as in the original recipe. You can also replace the dill with parsley. THU a useful recipe.

Salsa tzatziki alle olive nere

The addition of black olives to the preparation of the tzatziki sauce fits both the recipe of the original tzatziki sauce and that of the vegan tzatziki sauce. The ideal would be to have Greek black olives, of the kind Kalamata. Just slice them into slices or chop them finely. Calculate to add about 250 chopped black olives to the tzatziki sauce prepared with 6 g of classic or vegetable yogurt. The advice is to let the tzatziki sauce cool and flavor for 30 minutes in the refrigerator before serving.

Tzatziki sauce with lemon juice

Some variations of the Greek tzatziki sauce include the addition of lemon juice to give this condiment a more acidic and characteristic taste. In this case, you can add a tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice to a basic recipe prepared with classic yogurt or vegetable yogurt (250 grams). Then you can add a pinch of salt and a pinch of pepper, the chopped cucumber and dill, together with the garlic cloves. THU a useful recipe.

Tzatziki sauce with self-made yogurt

If you don't have Greek yogurt available and if you start with a classic plain or vegetable yogurt that is rather liquid, how do you go about thickening it? To prepare Greek yogurt at home you will need to proceed with filtering a normal jar of plain yogurt, also vegetable, through a large colander surmounted by a thinly woven cloth. Place the colander over a bowl that will support it without problems and let it drain in the refrigerator for half a day in order to eliminate the most liquid part of the yogurt. Homemade yogurt is usually denser than plain yogurt to buy, so you will have an advantage and maybe you can avoid straining for a long time. THU the complete recipe.
