Do you love plant foods and need to lose weight? The nutritional diet could be for you, in fact you eat mainly vegetables, legumes, dried fruit, oil seeds and mushrooms
Among the many more or less popular diets that circulate, especially in the United States, there is also the nutritarian diet, conceived by Dr. Joel Fuhrman author of the book "The nutritional diet: nutrition that scientifically prevents you from gaining weight".
According to his theory, this diet is indicated for people who need to lose weight or maintain it but also for those suffering from nervous hunger or wants to slow down the aging process.

How it works
Dr. Fuhrman is convinced that foods that have a higher nutritional density are more satisfying than those that are characterized by a high caloric intake. Choosing above all the former, within your daily diet, would therefore be the trick to definitively free yourself from that sometimes uncontrollable desire for sweets, carbohydrates and fatty foods.
Natural and colored plant foods contain the widest assortment of micronutrients, including some phytochemicals with anti-cancer power.
By taking foods that are very rich in nutrients, according to the theory that this diet carries on, we are able to promote our body's ability to assimilate good substances but also to heal itself. By following this diet, therefore, it could be possible to obtain a double result: losing weight and improving one's health.
But what specifically should you consume if you intend to follow this diet?
Nutritional diet: what to eat
The first, and arguably most important, thing this diet recommends is to eat every day mixed salad, considered a real course and not relegated to a simple side dish.
This must be composed taking into account specific indications. They must always be inserted inside:
- a raw crucifix
- a green leafy vegetable
- cooked mushrooms
- colorful vegetables and fruits such as peppers and tomatoes
- dried fruit or oil seeds
Tomato sauce and chickpea hummus are allowed as seasonings.
Every day they must then also be hired the legumes, useful for reaching the daily protein requirement but also an important source of starches.
Green light then to cooked vegetables to accompany with dried fruit or oil seeds since these, according to Dr. Furhman, help to better assimilate micronutrients.
Fruit is also very present in the nutritional diet, it is recommended to consume it fresh 3 times a day. The fruits to be preferred are pomegranate and berries.
Those who cannot give up meat can include it in their diet, even on a daily basis, but in a very moderate way. Women should not exceed 40 grams per day, while men are limited to 70 grams.
The only ones foods to avoid I'm:
- Sugar and other sweeteners
- Processed baked goods
- White flour products
It should also be noted that this diet it does not require calorie counting and does not include the use of fixed daily or weekly menus. You can eat the recommended foods freely until you are completely satisfied, but stop before feeling completely full.
Finally, it is advisable to eat only during the three main meals, without snacking. It is necessary to leave at least 13 hours between the last meal of the day and breakfast in order to give the body the time it needs to enter the catabolic (i.e. fat burning) phase of digestion.
Nutritional diet: contraindications
Even this apparently healthy diet can have contraindications and side effects. As always, we advise you not to choose do-it-yourself but to contact a nutritionist who can agree with you and based on your characteristics, the most suitable diet.
