    Is vinegar also effective against tuberculosis? THEvinegar it's a natural remedy known since ancient times for its properties, already at the time of Hippocrates it was used to treat the most common ailments, in particular for disinfect wounds. Scientific research is currently focusing on some of its characteristics to prove the beneficial effects of this very common condiment on our tables. Today's news comes from Venezuela where new research has highlighted the antibacterial properties of this product which would even be effective against the tuberculosis.





    The study, carried out in Caracas by the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics of the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Investigation (IVIC), showed the light as an active ingredient present in vinegar, the'acetic acid, is able to kill tuberculosis microbacteria (TB) of which some strains are particularly dangerous as they are antibiotic-resistant.

    The discovery came quite casually. In fact, the vinegar had to be used in the experiment together with other substances, so it would have been the mix that had to be tested on microrganismo che cause la Tbc (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) to evaluate its effectiveness. The researcher Claudia Cortesia, however, realized that vinegar was able to kill the bacterium even without the help of other substances. At this point, then, the study took a different turn and what the researchers did from then on was to test a 6% acetic acid solution for 30 minutes on the different strains of tuberculosis. Result? Even those notoriously more resistant to drugs were eradicated.

    This discovery, details of which were published in the American Society for Microbiology journal mBio, will lead to the preparation of a solution based on vinegar (therefore as well as natural also at low cost) for use as a disinfectant in hospitals and in other health care facilities in order to prevent dangerous bacteria from spreading.
