This simple, homemade drink with just two ingredients, according to a recent study, would be able to counteract hypertension by lowering blood pressure within minutes of taking.

A systematic review

According to research published in the Pakistan Journal of Food Sciences, tea withgarlic and honey is a winning combination in case of hypertension. A study was designed to evaluate the antihypertensive effect of garlic honey tea in twenty-four hypertensive subjects.

To identify the effect on hypertension, 3g, 5g, 7g of garlic and honey in the form of herbal tea were administered for 42 days, to evaluate the effect of garlic honey tea.

The results

Blood pressure is recorded with two numbers: la systolic pressure (higher number) is the force with which the heart pumps blood to the body; there diastolic pressure (lowest number) is the resistance to blood flow in the blood vessels. They are both measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg).

The data obtained during the study was subjected to statistical analysis, and the results showed that regular consumption of garlic honey tea resulted in a significant reduction in elevated blood pressure. Furthermore, it has been noted that garlic and honey have potential antihypertensive effect. Hence, garlic and honey are highly tolerated and can be considered a complementary treatment option for hypertension.



Some useful tips for the health of our body

To keep us healthy, here are some useful tips to keep in mind:

  • reduce the amount of salt and eat lots of fruits and vegetables to lower high blood pressure
  • remember that salt increases blood pressure; consequently, the more salt you eat, the higher the pressure will be. According to the National Health Service (NHS), you should eat less than 6g of salt per day, which is about one teaspoon.
  • a low-fat diet that includes a lot of fiber, such as brown rice, bread and pasta, fruits and vegetables also helps to lower blood pressure ”.
