    Can breast cancer be caused by an unbalanced diet? According to various food theories, yes. But now an authoritative confirmation arrives, that of the National Cancer Institute of Milan. In particular, the new epidemiological study, carried out at the facility, pointed the finger on saturated fat (of animal origin) accused of increase the risk to get sick of this pathology.





    The research, conducted by a team of experts from the Epidemiology and Prevention department of the Department of Predictive and Preventive Medicine, concluded that people who follow a diet high in saturated fat have the 14% higher chance of developing breast cancer and you even get to 28-29% recital i tumor subtypes that respond to hormone therapies.

    To reach this conclusion, over 10 thousand women with breast cancer were monitored out of a total of 300 thousand volunteers who were part of the epic european project (European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition). The research, published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, highlights how saturated fats are dangerous in particular for those types of hormone-dependent breast cancer.

    "This work - said Marco Pierotti, scientific director of the National Cancer Institute - demonstrates the strategic importance of epidemiological studies, investing in which relevant results are obtained not only for the definition of correct lifestyles but also for the understanding of the mechanisms of onset of tumors, as in this case for a subtype of breast cancer ".

    The advice is therefore to reduce the consumption of saturated fats of animal origin as much as possible (meat and dairy products). According to experts, a balanced diet includes no more than 10% of daily calories from saturated fat.
