Symptoms of hypertension
In general, hypertension persists for a long time without giving any particular symptoms, also because it is very easy to diagnose and keep under control. In this regard, it is good to periodically examine the values of your blood pressure.
In some cases, hypertension produces symptoms such as headache, breathlessness, dizziness, chest pains, heart palpitations, urinary retention and nosebleeds, but also:
- tinnitus
- redness of the face
- nervousness
- night sweats
- hot flashes
- insomnia problems
- presence of blood stains in the eyes
- dizziness
In many cases these are symptoms that could occur during the so-called "hypertensive crisis".
According to the classification of the JNC 7 (Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation and Treatment of High Blood Pressure), a systolic pressure below 120 mmHg and a diastolic pressure below 80 mmHg is considered "normal". Above 140 mmHg maximum or 90 mmHg minimum one is hypertensive. We speak of 'isolated systolic' hypertension when it is only the maximum that is high (i.e. ≥ 140 mmHg).
