Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

The diffusion in hospitals of the super bacterium New Delhi, resistant to antibiotics. According to what was reported by the Region in a press conference, they would be 64 cases of infection ascertained from the end of 2018 to today, an anomalous situation to be kept constantly monitored but for which a real alarm has not yet been launched.

The bacterium in question is the New Delhi metal beta-lactamase, isolated for the first time in 2009 in a Swedish patient who recently returned from India (hence the name). What is worrying is the fact that this bacterium has developed strong resistance to antibiotics.

Particularly fragile hospital patients are at greater risk: elderly, immunosuppressed people and those who already suffer from previous diseases. The others, even if they come into contact with it, can live with the bacterium that lives in the intestinal flora and which, in most cases, is not dangerous.

And being affected by the problem is above all the North West Tuscany therefore in particular the province of Massa, Livorno and Pisa. According to the data reported at the press conference by the Region, the cases of infection from the end of last year to date would be 64. Some patients have died from the infection but the Region is keen to emphasize that the link between the presence of the bacterium and deaths must still be confirmed.

We do not want to generate alarmism, therefore, even if we are in the presence of a problem with which, unfortunately, it seems that we will have to begin to familiarize ourselves. Antibiotic-resistant bacteria, in fact, according to estimates, will claim many victims in the coming years worldwide.

The regional councilor for health Stefania Saccardi stated that the medical staff is given the utmost attention and that:

“We must avoid alarmism. The numbers, albeit higher than those expected, are not such, and the necessary measures have already been put in place for months to get to know the phenomenon better but above all to reduce its extent ".
