It seems that the men particularly need the company of friends (male) to feel good. Research a few months ago had already shown this by arguing that going to the pub in the company of friends has beneficial effects on the mental health of men. Now a new study confirms that, when in company, men see lower cortisol levels, stress hormone.

The research, published in PNAS, was conducted by a team from Gottinger University on Bertucce (Macaca sylvanus), choices because they have social behaviors very similar to those of humans. In fact, although the males of these monkeys fight each other when a female is involved, in reality they also manage to make real friendships, creating groups similar to our groups or companies but with members all of the same sex.

It has been observed that when male monkeys are found with other males of the same species they have lower cortisol levels than when female monkeys are present or found in families. Among other things, it seems that these primates are going to look for the company of circle of proven friends that they have chosen over time even if happily linked to a partner and family.

Scientists claim that they have not recorded the same situation by evaluating the behavior and cortisol values of the female monkeys. Strange, given that even renowned women appreciate being exclusively with the small circle of their trusted friends! Perhaps they have strayed further from resemblance to our forefathers?
