According to a study published in the Journal of AmericanCollege of Cardiology, the Mediterranean diet is one of the most effective tools to control some of the most common ailments in contemporary society, such as metabolic syndrome, obesity, cholesterol, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.



    In recent years the voices in favor of Mediterranean cuisine - which rewards fruit, vegetables, fish, but also low-fat cheeses, pasta and pizza (as long as they are reasonable) - have multiplied, with much recognition by UNESCO as a heritage of humanity, but always with some reservations and often lacking a consolidated scientific study. But now, the latest study published on the subject has brushed aside any doubts: the Mediterranean diet is good for health and helps keep fit.

    Specifically, the study states that following a Mediterranean diet helps monitor the onset of metabolic syndrome, obesity - especially abdominal obesity - levels of HDL cholesterol (the one commonly defined as "bad") and triglycerides, blood pressure values, glucose functioning; it also allows you to rreduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and even godly properties benefits against some types of cancer.

    “The prevalence of metabolic syndrome - Said Demosthenes Panagiotakos, from the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition Sciences at Harokopio University of Athens, who led the study - is rapidly increasing worldwide, in parallel with the growing incidence of diabetes and obesity. Metabolic syndrome is one of the main causes of the onset of cardiovascular disease. For these reasons, the prevention of this condition is of considerable importance ".

    And there's more: those who eat Mediterranean reduces the risk of mortality!

    But how did they come to these conclusions? The results of the study - in reality - come from the analysis and comparison of data taken from over 50 reports on the Mediterranean diet, carried out on a total of over 500.000 people.
