    The 2000 scout boys from Scandicci were literally stuck on the Strofinatoio Pass, almost 15 meters on the ridge that separates Tuscany from Emilia Romagna, fortunately rescued on Sunday 24 April by two Alpine and Speleological Rescue teams from the Corno alle Scale stations. (CNSAS), in the province of Bologna.




    A snowstorm caught them off guard and three of them, two 18-year-old girls and one 17-year-old, were taken to the Porretta hospital for severe hypothermia.

    As reported by the CNSAS itself, the boy scouts and a companion left from the Montanaro Refuge, in the Municipality of San Marcello Pistoiese, headed for the Duca degli Abruzzi Refuge, despite the weather being not mild and the Refuge manager had advised against it.

    Once at Passo dello Strofinatoio, a snowstorm prevailed, so much so that the boys were forced to stop due to poor visibility, cold and fear of ending up on rock jumps. So they asked for the help of the rescuers.

    Caught by a blizzard at P.sso dello Strofinatoio on the watershed ridge that divides Tuscany from Emilia Romagna, in the Corno alle Scale area, a group of 15 Boy Scouts all residing in the province of Florence, including a minor and all wore the typical uniform with shorts. With them an escort. They left from the Montanaro Refuge which is located in the municipality of San Marcello Pistoiese (Pt) and headed for the Duca degli Abruzzi Refuge. They left despite the weather worsening and the Refuge manager had advised against it. When they reached P.sso dello Strofinatoio they were hit by a snowstorm. Forced to stop due to poor visibility, cold and fear of ending up on rock jumps, they asked for help from 112. There are about 13 and two teams of the Alpine and Speleological Rescue from the Corno alle Scale stations with a dog unit and the M.te Cimone station, begin to approach the indicated area. The ground conditions and the strong wind did not allow the use of skis and the technicians continued on foot. In the meantime, 118 sent two ambulances, the auto-medical and a minibus to the Polle outpatient clinic. The Boy Scout group is joined by the staff and taken back to the CNSAS headquarters where the doctor visited them. Three of them, three women two 18 years old and one 17 year old were taken to the Porretta hospital for severe hypothermia. The other children were loaded by the Red Cross minibus and by the Alpine Rescue vehicles and taken to the headquarters of the CRI in Lizzano waiting for their parents. The Carabinieri of Lizzano were also present on site.
