You really know the difference between deodorants and antiperspirants? Heat and stress, as we well know, favor the sweating. It is a physiological reaction of our organism, very important for the elimination of toxins. But heat and stress can accentuate it a lot to the point of creating embarrassment and some annoyance.

According to experts, few people know how to fight sweating properly when it becomes a problem. In particular, not everyone is clear about the difference between deodorants and antiperspirants.

This is what emerged from the data collected by the Dermatological Clinic dell 'University of Catania. The researchers conducted a cognitive study on 3000 subjects who were asked to fill out a questionnaire.

The questionnaire showed that most people who suffer from excessive sweating use deodorants or antiperspirants, or both, without knowing exactly the difference between these products.

In fact, as the professor Giuseppe Micali, director of the Dermatological Clinic of the University of Catania, there is a lot of confusion between deodorants and antiperspirants also at a legal level.

La European regulations consider both deodorants and antiperspirants as cosmetic products. In the United States, however, antiperspirants are controlled by the FDA and must ensure that they reduce sweating by at least 20%.

Experts explain that sweating is a mechanism implemented by our body to protect itself from overheating. The sweat secreted by our glands is initially odorless. The bad smell it appears due to contact with bacteria that may be present on the skin.

Only when sweating is really excessive do experts suggest using antiperspirants, which limit the escape of sweat by blocking the glandular duct. However, we ask ourselves how healthy this type of intervention can be for the body, which at least partially blocks one of its natural functions.

Unlike antiperspirants, deodorants do not stop sweat from escaping but they act to counteract the formation of bad odors. They can carry out a bactericidal action to counteract the presence of microorganisms that lead to the formation of foul-smelling sweat. They often contain scents that help cover up bad smells.

Since deodorants and antiperspirants do not perform the same task, it is better to pay attention to the type of product to buy and to use according to the problem to be treated. True and, as the experts recall, that the products themselves do not always carry a clear denomination to allow you to understand precisely whether they are deodorants or antiperspirants.

The problem is that theuse of antiperspirants by people who do not need them can create side effects such as dry skin, irritation and the appearance of lumps due to sweat retention. At the same time, those who try to solve a problem of profuse sweating by using a simple deodorant will not really find much help.

Hence the need for more correct information and greater clarity on the part of companies on the characteristics of these products. And if you are looking for a natural deodorant, try the DIY alternatives.
