Are you thinking of expanding your family? To be more likely to conceive you can also help with food and new research is always trying to identify foods and drinks that can increase fertility. Today is the turn of beer, recommended (in moderation) to all men who aspire to become a dad, and coffee which should not be abused.

According to the study, conducted by a research team from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and presented in Honolulu at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine conference, the beer it would be a real one ally of male fertility, especially if consumed every day. Conversely men who take larger amounts of coffee and caffeinated drinks are also the ones that see the chances of procreation collapsing the most.

To carry out the search they were taken as champion 105 men (average age 37 years) who together with their companions had done the pathway for in vitro fertilization between 2007 and 2013 at the Boston hospital. All were asked to fill out a questionnaire which, among other things, assessed the amount of alcohol and caffeine consumed by men.

Although there was no correlation between the consumption of these substances and the sperm quality of men, however, the researchers found a correlation with fertility by estimating who drank a pint of beer a day had a 57% better chance of procreating, while the percentage for those who drank less fell to 28%.

For caffeine, on the other hand, it was the other way around. Those who consumed a lot of it (over 265 milligrams a day) had a 19% chance of seeing a baby being born shortly compared to 52% of those who consumed it moderately.

How this all happens is still unclear. Experts simply speculate that beer can help reduce stress related to conception on the contrary, instead of caffeine which, as is well known, has an exciting action on the nervous system. Further studies are therefore needed to confirm this theory!
