In New York State, 100 cases of coronavirus positive or antibody children with Kawasaki disease. Governor Andrew Cuomo announces it

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

Disturbing but true: even in New York, cases of positive children or with anti-antibodies are increasing coronavirus with the Kawasaki disease. This was announced by the governor of the homonymous state Andrew Cuomo who reports about 100 cases and unfortunately 3 deaths. Medical investigations are ongoing.

Kawasaki disease is characterized by often very high fever and a complex of inflammatory manifestations that can affect different parts of the body, with skin rashes, oral erosions, edema of others but in rare cases also heart problems or major joints.

It most frequently affects children up to 5 years of age and is considered one rare disease, as per the Orpha.net database, which reports an annual incidence in Europe in this age group of 1 / 6.500 - 20.500 (more frequent, however, in the Asian population). In more developed countries, unfortunately, it represents the most common cause of acquired heart disease in children.

Coronavirus, in children is increasing Kawasaki disease, the Bergamo study and the appeal of pediatricians

But since the coronavirus spread, the alarms have significantly increased and have also been launched on older children and young people, up to the age of 21: for this reason the pathology seems to be related to the pandemic infection in progress. The therapy, however, as confirmed by the virologist Crisanti, is practically always effective.

Coronavirus, Crisanti: "Children get sick less and are less contagious, but only after one year of age"

From the UK, passing through Spain and our Bergamo, where the virus still records the majority of cases, now it is the USA that announces the sudden increase of this pathology, almost always on positive or with antibodies against SARS-CoV -2.

New York State is now investigating about 100 cases of an inflammatory illness in children that may be related to COVID-19.

The ages of these cases range from infancy to age 21.

In the city of New York alone, in particular, by far the most populated of the state, there are 52 confirmed cases of which 25 are positive for the virus and 22 with antibodies.

"If [your child has] a fever, is unresponsive, lacks appetite, is developing a rash, you notice that his tongue is particularly red," he told NBC New York, addressing his parents. Oxiris Barbot, considered one of the best doctors in the city - well, these are the first signs that we ask you not to ignore ”.

It looks just like one complication of coronavirus, although Kawasaki disease can also strike quite independently.

Tragically, three young New Yorkers have died of what may be a COVID-related illness in children.

This illness has symptoms that are similar to Kawasaki disease & toxic shock syndrome.

DOH is investigating & we will provide updates.

Though rare, we urge parents to be vigilant.

A complication of the coronavirus that the state had not even recognized until a week ago, but which is now evident throughout the country. Affecting both infants and teenagers.

“Apparently, these children they had the antibodies or were positive for COVID-19, but those weren't the symptoms they showed when they entered the hospital system, ”Governor Cuomo said.

A situation that deserves further investigation also because these could hopefully lead to one greater understanding of the mechanism of the virus itself, therefore to more targeted therapies.
