Colon cancer: the symptom to recognize

Many of the early symptoms of colon cancer are related to intestinal problems, such as can be constipation. Having persistent severe pain in the lower abdomen, bloating of the stomach, or unintentional weight loss are lesser known symptoms of the disease.

However, too experience stomach pain especially after eating is another sign to be aware of. Stomach pain or bloating from meals are signs that you may be at risk for colon cancer. This can sometimes result in a reduction in the amount of food consumed and the weight loss. Other symptoms include a persistent change in bowel habits, including going to the bathroom more often and finding blood in the stool. Cancer cells consume the body's energy as they multiply and the development of a tumor could block the colon or intestinal tract which prevents adequate nutrient absorption causing weight loss.

Colon cancer has long been considered a form of cancer affecting only the older population. Each year, however, it is diagnosed in more and more young adults. The AIRC Foundation, in fact, affirms that recent data bring to light an annual increase of 0,4% of cases of cancer in individuals less than 50 years of age. This increase in cases particularly concerns very young subjects, up to the age of 30 at the time of diagnosis. It is therefore evident how lo screening, that is diagnostic investigations used to identify in a population subjects with a disease or who are at risk of developing it, becomes increasingly important even among the younger groups.
