La cannabis can reverse the processes of brain aging. To confirm it is a new one study conducted by a team of scientists from the University of Bonn. Prolonged and low-dose treatment with the active ingredient of cannabis would in fact be useful in reducing brain aging by opening new frontiers to the treatment of senile dementia and other similar processes.
All thanks to Thc (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), one of the major and best known active ingredients of cannabis also used for therapeutic purposes.
Like any other organ, our brain ages. Consequently, cognitive ability decreases with increasing age. This results for example in the difficulty in learning and remembering new things or in paying attention to several things at the same time.
This is a completely normal process but in the long run it favors the dementia senile. Researchers have long been looking for solutions to slow down or even reverse this mechanism.
Scientists fromUniversity of Bonn and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel) they worked together on this front, exploiting the potential contained in a small amount of THC.
The results were surprising: the number of bonds between the nerve cells in the brain increased again, an important prerequisite for learning ability.
According to the scientists, the treatment seemed to literally bring back the age of the brain, rejuvenating it.
The next phase will be the clinical study in humans. For some time now cannabis is used for therapeutic purposes, for example in the pain therapy.
Many are the benefits found using medical cannabis, from the treatment of schizophrenia to that of multiple sclerosis. Probably in a few years its use will be extended to other fields of medicine.
