Cannabis is an excellent remedy for nausea. I study

Cannabis offers immediate relief from nausea symptoms with increasing benefits over time, and "recreational" is more effective

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

Cannabis offers immediate relief from nausea symptoms with noticeable improvement in moments and increasing benefits over time. The research was conducted at the University of New Mexico (USA).

Nausea is a common symptom, but it is often difficult to treat with conventional methods ranging from herbal remedies like ginger to prescription medications. Common causes of nausea include food poisoning, emotional distress, gastrointestinal upset, motion sickness, pregnancy, and chemotherapy.

Cannabis has been used to actually treat nausea for millennia, and although its efficacy in treating nausea induced specifically by chemotherapy is widely recognized even in modern times, its use for this disorder has so far been studied in the population without insight. on the time needed for relief and how this is affected by the characteristics of the product.

A research team from the University of New Mexico has now done systematic work, analyzing data from 2.220 cannabis self-administration sessions recorded by 886 people with the Releaf app, designed to help users manage cannabis use and that allowed them to record real-time changes in symptom intensity.

An immediate relief that depends on the characteristics of the product

The results verified that the vast majority of patients (more than 96%) who have used cannabis to treat nausea has tried nausea relief within one hour of taking.

Despite growing clinical concerns related to cyclic vomiting or hyperemesis syndrome in cannabis users, almost all users have felt relief, says Sarah Stith, co-author of the work.

However, the extent of nausea relief experienced by the study sample varied by product characteristics, with flowers and concentrates outperforming tinctures and edibles. Products labeled as Cannabis sativa and “hybrids” have outperformed products labeled as Cannabis indica. Additionally, the joints were associated with greater symptom relief than consumed via vaporizers.

"Recreational" cannabis is more effective than medical cannabis

The work also thoroughly investigated the effects of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), typical of the "recreational" consumption of cannabis, and CBD (cannabidiol), more commonly associated with medical use. And, to my amazement, the results proved a greater effect of THC than CBD.

The mechanisms underlying the ability of cannabis to rapidly reduce the sensation of nausea are not entirely clear - explains Jacob Vigil, co-author of the research - but involve the ability of the plant to activate the responses of the CB1 receptor to other stimuli in the central nervous system. such as the insular cortex involved ininterception, conscious awareness of internal body states, example of a brain region naturally modulated in part by endocannabinoids that naturally develop in the human body. Therefore, it is not surprising that the phytocannabinoids that develop in the cannabis plant are also effective in stimulating similar brain regions.

Not all that glitters is gold

However, some of the implications of the study may not be entirely positive

Our results show that cannabis is used to treat nausea with a high rate of effectiveness - Stith warns - but they exist. concerns that its efficacy over conventional options may induce high-risk populations, such as pregnant women and children, to consume cannabis.

In fact, many doubts still persist.

He long-term effects of cannabis and its effects on development represent a significant gap in the existing literature on the medical use of cannabis in general, echoes Xiaoxue Li, who collaborated on the research.
