    To say this are the researchers of the Piacenza Hospital, according to which a diet rich in fruit, vegetables, fish and olive oil, therefore healthy and balanced, would help to preserve the health of women who have already had breast cancer.

    The research, presented at the international conference of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (Asco) underway in Chicago, involved 199 women who followed a diet that had little to do with the Mediterranean one: at the end of the observation period it was found that that 11 of them had experienced a relapse. Of the other 108 who had followed the Mediterranean diet, none saw breast cancer recur.

    Experts acknowledge that it is a fairly small study with limitations, but it raises questions of great interest. “The whole field of effective lifestyle interventions for breast cancer survivors is very important. But the results of the studies to date have been mixed: it is not clear whether there is a specific diet or foods to eat or not to eat to prevent recurrence, ”explains Dr. Erica Mayer.
