    Do you have a few extra pounds? Drink black tea! This is the suggestion of a team of researchers from the University of California (UCLA) following a study that discovered how this tea is able to encourage the growth of certain intestinal bacterial strains that increase metabolism.

    Basically, scholars have highlighted how black tea is able to promote weight loss. The new research, published in the European Journal of Nutrition, shows that the polyphenols in black tea, too large to be absorbed in the intestine, stimulate the production of good bacteria and modify the energy metabolism of the liver through intestinal metabolites.

    The results therefore suggest that black tea, as well as green tea (but this is nothing new!), Are prebiotic and therefore induce the growth of those good microorganisms capable of contributing to intestinal and whole body well-being. Specifically, however, black tea also increases the presence of bacteria of the Pseudobutyrivibrio species, which are very important for metabolism.

    While numerous previous studies have verified and confirmed the health benefits of green tea, this new study is one of the first to uncover the potential of the polyphenols found in black tea.

    As Susanne Henning, professor of human nutrition at UCLA and lead author of the study, said:

    “Green tea polyphenols were known to be more effective and offer more health benefits than black tea polyphenols as the chemicals in green tea are absorbed into the blood and tissues. Our findings also suggest that black tea, through a specific mechanism and through the gut microbiome, may also contribute to good health and weight loss in humans. Black tea lovers now have a new reason to continue drinking it ”.
