According to scholars, in fact, the nourishing properties of the tropical fruit would act as a basis shield against high blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure and obesity, all risk factors for the development of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Previous research had already highlighted the good amount of unsaturated fats and omega-3s in avocado, essential for the body because they are able to stimulate the production of good cholesterol and prevent the deposit of bad cholesterol. As well as, thanks to its high potassium content - it has a quantity comparable to that found in 3 bananas - it is recommended by experts as a useful food against hypertension.

“Avocado is a well-known source of carotenoids, minerals, phenolic compounds, vitamins and fatty acids - the authors write. The antihypertensive, antidiabetic, anti-obesity, antithrombotic, antiatherosclerotic and cardioprotective effects have been demonstrated in several studies ".

It seems that the beneficial effects of avocado derive from its own nutritional similarity with olive oil. It is in fact a very oily fruit rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, mainly oleic acid, which, if consumed in place of saturated fats, improve insulin sensitivity and therefore blood sugar, lower bad cholesterol levels, increase those of that good and lower triglycerides.
