According to scholars, watermelon - popular with adults and children - could become one new natural weapon to keep fit and protect the heart thanks to the action of citrulline, a substance contained in the fruit and already known to the scientific community for its beneficial properties against hypertension and heart disease.
“We know that watermelon is good for health because it contains citrulline - explained Shubin Saha, first author of the study - but we still don't know at what molecular level this substance works. This will be the next step to be examined in future research ".
