It is yellow in a high school in Woodbridge Township, in New Jersey: about sixty people, including employees and students, were affected by a rare form of brain tumor. To discover this disconcerting fact Al Lupiano, a former student of the Colony High School (who works as an environmental scientist) who reported the fact to the authorities and to the CBS New York newspaper.

His life was turned upside down when he was just twenty years old by a terrible diagnosis: brain tumor. The problem is that the same cancer was later also diagnosed to his sister and wife. The three had in common the school of origin: the Colonia High School. The strange coincidence made Al Lupiano suspicious, who wanted to see clearly and decided to undertake an investigation. After the death of his 44-year-old sister (which occurred just over a month ago due to stage four glioblastoma), the man posted a post on Facebook asking all pupils and alumni of Colonia High School if they suffered from cancer at the brain and the answer was shocking to say the least.

What I find alarming is that there is really only one environmental link with primary brain tumors and that is ionizing radiation. - underlines Al Lupiano - It is not contaminated water. It is not air. It is not something in the soil. It is not something that is done to us due to bad habits.

The construction of the school building dates back to 1967. “It was a virgin land, a wood. The high school was the first structure to be built there, so there was probably nothing in the ground at the time, ”explains Woodbridge Mayor John McCormick.

Following the terrifying discovery, the Department of Environmental Protection and the Federal Toxic Substances Registry Agency have launched an environmental investigation to understand the precise causes of the brain tumor boom. The Woodbridge Mayor said the school community will be made aware of the progress of the investigation.

For the moment, the most accepted hypothesis is that the surge in cancer cases is related to the materials with which the school building was built. But it is still too early to draw conclusions.
