Pesticides in strawberries: rinsing is not enough, these are the best and most effective methods to remove them

What is the best way to wash pesticides off strawberries? This fruit contains more than all the others and simply rinsing them with water is not enough

Strawberries, for a change, are the fruit that contains most of all potentially harmful pesticide residues. This is said by the American working group on the environment, the EWG, which classified the levels of pesticide residues in fruit and vegetables based on samples taken by the US Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration.

Every year a Dirty Dozen ™ comes out, a “dirty dozen” of vegetables and fruits with high levels of chemicals, found after washing and peeling every single ingredient. Also in 2021 strawberries are confirmed as the most contaminated fruit and spinach as regards vegetables. In light of these data, it is even more important to know exactly how to remove these residues before consuming the fruit.

For this, rinsing strawberries is not enough.

Once the fruits have been rinsed, drain with a mesh strainer and dry gently with a clean cloth or paper towels just before eating them.

Do not make the mistake of rinsing newly purchased red fruits, in this way the humidity increases and the microflora, mold and therefore deterioration are accelerated. This is why it is best to rinse them exclusively before eating them.
