Moses Bridge: the pedestrian bridge that makes you walk between the waters

None of us can concretely walk in the waters like Moses, but a very similar experience is really possible if you decide to visit the Netherlands and to cross the Moses Bridge, a footbridge which, crossing a moat, leads to Fort de Roovere, a defense structure dating back to the 17th century, which stands in Halsteren in the Municipality of Bergen op Zoom.

Both crossing the bridge on foot and simply observing it from afar represent two actions that allow tourists to be given truly unique emotions. The bridge was designed by architects belonging to the RO&AD studio, also based in the Netherlands, and was built using a wood that is particularly resistant to wear over time, belonging to the variety called “Accoya”.

The ancient defensive structures, thanks to the construction of the bridge and the presence of trees and green areas in their vicinity, have become a tourist attraction and the symbol of a recreational place, next to which both were made cycle paths what paths suitable for walking and exploring these places rich in history.

It is precisely for the historical reasons linked to such constructions - such as the inappropriateness of building a fixed bridge connecting a fortress and the mainland, in order to keep the enemy away - that the architects considered it an excellent idea to build a bridge that was invisible from afar and whose sides were completely covered by water and of such a height as to allow passers-by to cross it almost without being seen.

What you notice when observing the fortress from afar is a line that crosses the waters that precede it, without however spoiling the overall beauty of the landscape in any way, but rather, enriching it with mystery. L'environmental impact of the new construction has been highly taken into consideration, in order to guarantee easy access to the fortress, but at the same time not ruin a place of historical importance. Thanks to Moses Bridge, walking among the waters turns into a dream almost possible.
