Il gastroesophageal reflux can be fought thanks to one Ultrasonic “stapler”. It is called Muse (Medigus Ultrasonic Surgical Endostapler) and allows a minimally invasive treatment of the disease by esophageal reflux, through the reconstruction of the esophageal valve, eliminating the need for surgery.

This is a promising technological innovation for sufferers gastroesophageal reflux, presented at “EndoLive 2015”, the international medical-scientific workshop on the latest diagnostic and therapeutic digestive endoscopy techniques.

"The principle behind this new technology - has explained Guido Costamagna, director of the operative unit of surgical digestive endoscopy of the A. Gemelli University Hospital - is to transform procedures that are usually performed through "open" and / or laparoscopic surgery into endoluminal procedures, which exploit natural orifices ".

Muse, in fact, unites one surgical stapler, ultrasound waves and a miniaturized video camera. With this tool it is therefore possible to carry out an intervention against the gastoesophageal reflux starting from the mouth.

"Preliminary studies performed with this new technique - Costamagna concludes - have shown that at 3 years, the procedure remains effective in improving the quality of life in patients with moderate-severe GERD. The use of drugs that are normally taken by patients with GERD was eliminated or reduced in 73% of subjects undergoing this treatment ”.

In short, MUSE offers a new treatment option for the millions of patients suffering from gastroesophageal reflux and are unable to obtain long-term relief from available drug therapies. Or they don't want to undergo invasive surgery.

Fortunately, however, there are also natural remedies useful for gastroesophageal reflux.
