Coca-Cola Life, did we really need it? The well-known carbonated soft drink multinational has launched a new version of Coca Cola on the South American market, sweetened with stevia. The drink comes padvertised as natural and beneficial, but there are indeed numerous suspicions about it.

The launch of the new drink took place in Buenos Aires: Argentina will therefore be the first market in which Coca Cola Life will be sold. Stevia, in South America, has always been known for the now well known healing and sweetening properties. The multinational probably hopes that the new version of the drink will be welcomed by those who used stevia normally, even before thecommercial invasion of sweeteners derived from it.

Coca Cola Life is neither a healthy nor a green drink, like the change of image of the soft drink, complete with a can that is tinged with green, would like to suggest. In fact, it remains a drink completely devoid of beneficial nutrients. Coca Cola Life is nothing more than water, dyes, more or less natural sweeteners and bubbles, with a lower calorie content than the classic version, but still not negligible, equal to 64 calories per can (instead of 139), and with the 50% less sugars.

Will the new image of Coca Cola and the presence of stevia be able to mislead consumers? The experts of overseas power supply have strong doubts that the Coca Cola with stevia can be considered as a drink suitable for obese or diabetic people. L'stevia extract used to sweeten the new Coca Cola takes the name of Truvia, and would already have been used for the lower calorie versions of Fanta and Sprite.

Coca Cola Life: is it enough to add stevia to become green and natural?

Including stevia among the ingredients of Coca Cola does not make the drink neither healthier nor more sustainable, beyond the reduction of the caloric intake of the same. Let's not forget the main underlying reason for boycotting multinationals like Coca Cola. This is thehoarding of water resources, which deprives the populations of the poorest countries of drinking water, as announced by the documentary Bottled Life.
