The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic does not seem to want to stop and although the infections seem to decrease and gradually the individual states are returning to normal pre-Covid-19, in some countries the new variant of the Omicron - the BA.2 - is transmitting very fast and has become predominant, being 30% more contagious, according to the latest research.

This is the case of Denmark, but also of the United Kingdom where this sub-variant is responsible for 52% of hospitalizations for Covid-19.

BA.2 has spread at a record speed in Europe, Asia, but some cases have also been recorded in Africa where it has so far caused both serious health complications which in part could recall the more aggressive Delta variant, but also normal convalescence such as the Micron.

Laboratory tests revealed not only that the sub-variant contains many new mutations from the original virus spread from Wuhan and dozens of genetic changes that are different from the Omicron strain, but also that BA.2 was found to be resistant to some treatments, among them Sotrovimab, the neutralizing monoclonal antibody currently in use against Omicron. This makes it very complex to define the danger of the sub-variant which, however, is confirmed to be more contagious.

said the researcher Chin-Hong who has conducted analyzes in this regard, despite agreeing, like other experts, that the complete vaccination course is so far the best protection available.
