The study in question was conducted by scientists from the University of Stirling, Scotland, The research results were published in the scientific journal Marine Drugs. Marine scientists have mostly referred to brown algae, as well as other types of algae present in the sea.
Epa omega 3 and Dgla omega 6 fatty acids would present anti-inflammatory properties, able to counteract the bacterium Enterobacter acnes and Staphylococcus aureus. Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids attract the attention of experts due to the possibility of developing new topical treatments thanks to their antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
In this way they could be identified new possible forms of treatment acne and superficial skin infections. In any case, further investigations by experts will be necessary to understand what are the best forms of treatment to apply based on the new compounds tested against bacteria that can cause skin infections and acne.
Second as declared by the experts, the long chain fatty acids are already present on the skin. It is possible to enrich their supply through food, for example thanks to seaweed. In the opinion of the researchers, for the treatment of acne, it could be useful to apply on the skin of topical medications, for example in cream, which contain the new antibacterial compounds indicated as effective for the treatment of acne and other skin diseases.
