The project paid off and in May 2014 the collective of architects Rumlabor gave birth to the 22 temporary hotels of the Hotel Shabby Shabby initiative on the occasion of Theater Der Vert Festival, a 17-day event hosted by West Germany.
The festival took place in German cities that have decided to welcome theatrical productions made all over the world and related visitors from all over Europe. To bring the project to life, Rumlabor asked for the participation of architecture students, professionals and creative geniuses.
Their job was to create welcoming rooms for visitors out of the city's rubbish and waste materials Mannheim. The initiative saw the participation of 120 creatives from France, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal, England, Austria, Poland and Germany.
Among the most extravagant accommodations we find Prince Case, a roll of tubes held together by cable ties, resembling a bright yellow cocoon. Then here is a wooden accommodation formed by bunks and protected by a canopy created with umbrellas.
In short, the designers have given space to imagination and creative recycling, with surprising results. In the hope that the temporary housing can be dismantled and reassembled for the next big event.
