In Holland the house open to all made with recycled doors and windows

Old doors and windows, what to do with them? Nothing. Wrong. It is in fact possible to use the fixtures used to build a house. A building produced with recycled materials is not a utopia but the fruit of the work and imagination of the French architect Stéphane Malka who created a temporary structure for his "Bow House" in the Netherlands, in Heerlen

Old doors and windows, what to do with it? Nothing. Wrong. In fact, it is possible to use fixtures used for build a house. A building produced with recycled materials it is not a utopia but the fruit of the work and imagination of the French architect Stéphane Malka who created a temporary structure for his "Bow House”In the Netherlands, in Heerlen.

Already known in the industry for guerrilla installations and parasitic architecture, Malka has a residential complex in the Arche de la Défense and student accommodation made from pallets affixed to a wall.

At the base of his work, a philosophy of thought: it is possible to transform abandoned neighborhoods of abandoned cities into bizarre living spaces using recycled materials. Hence his latest work, the characteristic Bow-House, designed as a refuge, where anyone can live temporarily and for free.

Ease of construction. In addition to reusing materials otherwise transformed into waste, the Bow-House can be set up in no time because it is based on a flexible system that can be mounted in any public space with a blank wall. A sort of glazed layer resting on an already existing solid structure that gives rise to a patchwork of windows and doors assembled in random order.

The one made in Holland extends over two levels and has a terrace made of grass. Doors everywhere, except at the entrance, but a space that is always open ready to welcome anyone who happens to pass through the area.

Built at low cost, the building made of old windows can be rebuilt anywhere. Considered by the architect as an extension of a public square, the Bow-House "is an open housing unit, literally in continuity with the public space, open to all passers-by," explains on their Malka website.

An idea already beaten but no less interesting. Also working on a similar project were Nick Olson and Lilah Horwitz who about a year ago left their jobs to devote themselves to the realization of their dream: build a cabin in the mountains, in West Virginia, using old doors and windows. And the result is nothing short of suggestive.
