A retired Californian couple decided to make their dream of living an ecological existence come true after identifying the house where it would be perfect to live once their work commitments are over. It is a houseboat located in Powell Lake, Canada, completely self-sufficient despite not being connected to the electricity grid and without a plumbing system.

A pair of Californian retireesi decided to make your dream come true to spend an ecological existence after having identified the house in which it would have been perfect to live once one's work commitments have been concluded. It is a small one floating house located in Powell Lake, in Canada, completely self-sufficient despite not being connected to the electricity network and without a plumbing system.
The couple, formed by Margy and Wayne Lutz, would not trade their houseboat for any other home in the world. At the time of retirement, there are those who dream of being able to take refuge in a cottage among woods and green hills or on a desert island where to start all over again, and there are those who, like the Californian couple to whom we refer, decide to make a more original choice, albeit based on the will of Respect the enviroment.
The absence of cconnection to the electrical network is easily solved thanks to the installation of three solar panels. As for cooking and heating, the couple uses one wood stove, which is used to obtain hot water. The water is extracted by means of special pumps directly from the lake and is heated on the stove for cooking and washing dishes. Only in exceptional cases, the couple resorts to the use of gas.
The floating house was purchased for the sum of 25 thousand dollars Americans. It was already present on the lake as temporary accommodation for fishermen and woodcutter. The house is equipped with a ecological toilet, provided with an efficient composting system. The couple said they were able to eliminate thanks to the technique of composting even all their own sfood paper and thus be able to live with zero waste.
This also happens thanks to thefloating vegetable garden which they decided to build as part of their home, although at first it might seem like an impossible undertaking. It adds to a vegetable garden created on the mainland where the couple grows mainly potatoes.
Their home can only be reached by using a boat to cross the waters of the lake. The couple found themselves a reconsider their needs, realizing how to live in direct contact with nature you do not need to have an excessive amount of light, electricity or gas for cooking. In their houseboat you will not find all the comforts of a city home, but the necessary for lead a simple life and without excessive deprivation.
