THEphysical exercise is the best medicine for the heart. It can guarantee concrete beneficial effects like a drug, but without side effects. How to take care of your heart? By engaging in regular physical activity and abandoning a sedentary lifestyle and laziness. Movement is a guarantee to keep the heart healthy. Furthermore, to regain shape and lose weight, they are enough 30 minutes a day of physical activity.

This is confirmed by a new study conducted by the London School of Economics and by researchers from Harvard Medical School and Stanford University School of Medicine. The experts set out to investigate the research and related data comparing the effects of drugs and exercise on heart health.

The researchers looked at different situations. They dealt with cases of ictus and infarct, rehabilitation, heart disease and prevention of diabetes. They therefore considered exercise and drug therapies based on the percentages of deaths.

As reported by The Independent, exercise was as effective as medication for stroke and heart attack. The study in question was published by British Medical Journal and took into account the results from 305 EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCHES, which involved at least 340 thousand people.

Experts have noted that in many cases there is no significant difference between the use of drugs or exercise. Indeed, as far as stroke is concerned, physical activity turned out to be more effective than medicines to prevent the risk of death. For heart attacks, on the other hand, taking diuretic drugs would be more effective than physical activity, to be considered an excellent aid for rehabilitation.

The researchers therefore stressed that the use of drugs and exercise often leads to very similar outcomes regarding the prevention of death. The use of physical activity and movement should therefore be considered, in their opinion, as an alternative to be taken into close consideration, to accompany the need to take drugs.

Especially if the medicines do not guarantee the desired effects, the patient should be informed that his health could improve thanks to physical activity. According to Amy Thompson, a heart disease expert with the British Heart Foundation, patients should discuss with your doctor about the benefits they could derive from exercise following a stroke or heart attack.

Finally, experts point out that regular physical activity is a key part of one healthy lifestyle. At the same time, in their opinion, the decisions concerning the therapies to be followed or the medicines to be taken must always be made by the doctor on the basis of the patients' conditions. The doctor will be able to indicate the most suitable type of physical activity to devote to on a case-by-case basis.
