The ultimate goal is to create a work environment more like a park than a banal office. The plan also includes three 37-story towers integrated directly with outdoor open spaces, parks, and green roofs and art installations. Originally, the heart of the campus contained a public park and a low rectangular volume, with a rather indefinite design but with a green roof. NBBJ has however revised the project a bit, adding the three biospheres to the skyscrapers.
The Amazon points to the record. The company plans to build a total of 3,3 million square feet of office space across three blocks, purchased in December 2012 for $ 207,5 million. If completed, it would be the largest center ever, formed by the towers and three domes.
La dome the largest will have a diameter of about 46 meters, while the smallest of about 14. In height they will measure from a maximum of 32 to a minimum of 30 meters. Within the spherical volumes will be offices, dining rooms, meeting rooms, lounges and public commercial spaces on both ends.
The botanical areas will then be characterized by a series of plants, from ancient trees to high altitude vegetation. The steel and glass structures high transparency will provide the green with natural light and fresh air. NBBJ will design the facilities to meet the LEED Gold certification, which will help minimize energy use.
According to the SeattleTimesmoreover, the spheres will also be able to improve the appearance of the surrounding streets, redeveloping the public park and reducing the impact of shadows.
The announcement of The Amazon e NBBJ the city was greeted with conflicting opinions, although consensus on new construction prevailed. According to Amazon's plans, the project will have to be completed as early as 2016.
