In the town of Southampton the local police department received a rather unusual call Sunday morning: a small seal had been spotted wandering the streets and, among the cars, had reached the Riverside roundabout.
The agents went immediately to the scene and actually saw with their own eyes what the citizens had described to them: a baby seal stood on the road and he walked fearlessly through the traffic, risking being run over.
However, the animal was very lucky and, miraculously unharmed, was recovered by the team of the New York Marine Rescue Center. He is now in a rehabilitation center to be seen by vets and released into the wild as soon as possible, away from the streets of New York.
It is not an everyday thing to spot a seal on the asphalt as these mammals, which inhabit the eastern and western coasts of the United States, much prefer the beaches and coastal rocks of the port where they spend a good part of their life.
