The news is reported by The Siberian Times, which explains that the discovery of the Pleistocene wolf's head was made by chance by Pavel Efimol, a resident of the area near the Tirekhtyakh River. The find actually dates back to last summer, but only now has the wolf's head been shown to the world at the opening of the exhibition dedicated to 'Woolly Mammoth', organized by Japanese and Yakutia scientists, in Tokyo, Japan. .
The head that would belong to a giant wolf, who lived in the Pleistocene, about 40 thousand years ago has a thick fur that has been preserved over time as well as the fangs. As we said, according to the scientists, it should be from a wolf who died between 2 and 4 years. Despite being a puppy, therefore, what has left his mouth open is the size of the skull: 40 centimeters, about half the total body length of the wolves that populate our forests, which hardly exceed 86cm.

The Swedish Museum of Natural History will now take care of analyzing the wolf's DNA.
"This is an exceptional discovery, we will carry out comparisons with today's wolves to understand how the species has evolved and reconstruct its features," commented researcher Albert Protopopov of the Academy of Sciences of the Sakha Republic.
On the same site where the wolf skull was buried, a perfectly preserved cave lion cub was also discovered.
"The muscles, organs and brain are in good condition," explained Naoki Suzuki, a professor of paleontology at Tokyo's Jikei University School of Medicine.
