"Contrary to what was published by an online newspaper and taken up by other media, the bear M49 has not yet been captured", reads a press release from the province of Trento.
However, this does not mean that the bear is safe. On this animal hangs, in fact, a capture order wanted by the president Maurizio Fugatti according to which the bear is three years old and would be responsible for numerous damage to the livestock and three attempts to intrude into production or private premises.
Fugatti's decision opposed by Minister Costa who deems the act illegitimate. Here is what the Minister of the Environment writes:
“I didn't agree from the first moment and I still don't agree. I would have acted differently and I believe that the act of the province of Trento is illegitimate. For this reason, as soon as the order was delivered to the Ministry, I immediately asked the Council of State for an opinion. But, apart from the opinion and the papers, which follow their course, I strongly believe that this is not the right way ".
“This is why I informed Fugatti that Ispra will closely monitor all phases. Then I want to know the purpose of this capture: if the goal is to start a path to put it back in the wild or leave it in captivity. I would have managed it differently ”, writes Costa again.
