Avocado is a fruit known not only for its tasty pulp but also for the interesting properties that give it the substances it is rich in: Omega 3, vitamins, mineral salts and fibers. Eating it offers various benefits to our health and its use lends itself to the creation of many sweet and savory recipes.
But what if we need a ripe avocado right away while we have an unripe one at home? First of all, it is important to know if our avocado is ready to use.
How to recognize a ripe avocado
Gently press the top of the fruit with your fingers. If they sink slightly it is ripe at the right point to be used if it is too soft or even breaks with the pressure exerted it has probably reached an excessive degree of ripeness. On the other hand, if the finger does not sink, it is an avocado that is still partly unripe, then the following trick can be useful.
How to ripen an avocado in no time
If we need it, we can speed up the natural ripening process of avocado with a simple trick that will take little time.
All you need is avocado and aluminum foil. Wrap the fruit in aluminum foil, place it on the pan or directly in the oven on the grill for about 10 minutes at 200 °. After the time has elapsed, remove the fruit from the oven and place it in the refrigerator until it cools completely. At that point you can remove the card and check if the goal has been achieved.
Know that if your starting avocado was particularly unripe you may need to increase the time it needs to stay in the oven.
Other tricks to speed up the ripening of an avocado
In addition to this method, there are other ways to get the avocado to reach ripeness suitable for consumption quickly. For example, you can wrap it in newspaper or put it in a paper bag together with an apple or a banana for one or two days.Photo: momtastic.com
In this case it will be ethylene, a hormone naturally present in fruits, to accelerate the ripening process. In the bag, ethylene gases are trapped and this will allow the avocado to ripen more quickly.
