The sale of carbonated drinks in bottles and cans exceeding 500 ml is prohibited! This is the ban that from 2013 New Yorkers will find in the refreshment points of cinemas, discos and stadiums, but also in fast food and restaurants in the Big Apple. Obesity. The sale of carbonated drinks in bottles and cans over 500 ml! This is the ban that from 2013 New Yorkers will find in the refreshment points of cinemas, discos and stadiums, but also in fast food and in the restaurants of the Big Apple. And for those who do not respect this prohibition, the fine will be 300 dollars!

In the United States l'obesity has become a real social problem and the mayor of New York, Micheal Bloomberg, has decided to take decisive action to counter the growing number of overweight people in his city. How? By law prohibiting the sale of certain types of sugary drinks, such as Coca-Cola, orange soda, Pepsi, sweet coffees, soft drinks, fruit juices and smoothies with added sugars, in all those packs exceeding half a liter, widespread in the States.

After the loctave to smoking and fatty and harmful foods, it is the turn of the sodas: drinks so widespread in the United States that they represent one of the main causes of obesity among the youngest.

And so, starting from March 2013, restaurants, cinemas, fast food restaurants, stadiums and all soft drink retailers will not be able to sell coffee, sugary fruit juices and sweet drinks above the quantities decided by the mayor, for example. excluding those in the light or diet version, the vitaminized waters and those with less than 25 calories for 250 ml.

Naturally, they are not lacking the controversy of those who judge the initiative is useless or inappropriate:

On an advertisement that appeared on the New York Times, we read: "New Yorkers need a mayor, not a nanny".

But Bloomberg defends himself by stating that "obesity is a national problem - said the mayor - everyone turns their hands and says: 'It's terrible'. New York doesn't turn its hands, it does something. I think this is what people expect from the mayor “.

Will this ban really be effective? Probably some programs of nutrition education in schools and outreach projects for families would help people understand i risks related to obesity and would allow you to learn to eat better, without resorting to restrictions or prohibitions.
