After analyzing as many as 25.000 Danes, the researchers concluded that cholesterol levels after the Christmas holidays are 20% higher than in the summer.
“Our study shows strong indications that cholesterol levels are affected by the fatty food we consume when we celebrate Christmas. The fact that so many people have high cholesterol values right after the Christmas holidays is very surprising, ”says Dr Anne Langsted, MD, who is one of the authors of the article.
For this, people who already have high cholesterol should be even more careful about their cholesterol levels during the Christmas holidays.
“In any case, there is a greater risk of finding out that you have a high cholesterol level if you go to the doctor and have your cholesterol tested right after Christmas. It is important to be aware of this, both for doctors who treat high cholesterol and for those who want to keep their cholesterol levels low, ”she concludes.
Also because, if you have too much cholesterol in your blood, your arteries are affected and there is a greater risk of developing heart attacks and strokes.
