Traveling with children: vademecuum to fight boredom

By car, train or plane, traveling with children is always a pleasure. For 5 minutes. Because then, after the phase of "look how fast the train goes!", "Settle down comfortably in the seat that I'll tell you a story" or "toh but we're flying", those mucolytic brats that we insist on taking on holiday turn into the worst trouble (or have all the potential)

By car, train or plane, traveling with children it is always a pleasure. For 5 minutes. Because then, after the phase of "look how fast the train goes!", "Settle comfortably in the seat that I'll tell you a story" or "toh but we're flying", those mucolytic brats that we insist on taking on vacation turn into the worst of bores (or have all the potential).

The reason is simple: if they don't stay still for a moment even on the sofa at home, why should they do it now that “they are discovering the world”? And not only. The journey from one side to the other is yes inexhaustible source of stimuli, But the tedium it is - even with good reason - around the corner and must be faced with a firm fist (and some concessions that puppets can forget in everyday life).

So, whether they are 2 or 6 years old (before that the journey goes more or less smooth as oil, since the baby - in general - falls asleep for a long time and of stone), children have an almost paradoxical shortness of patience, which puts a strain on yours. What to do to pass the time? Well, wherever you are it is good to start from an assumption: invent the impossible, forget yourself, indulge them in the possible things and dedicate yourself to them.

GAMES - The first thing that comes to mind are, without a doubt, gods games to carry around, or to make or invent. It has almost always been the case that my children filled their personal backpacks with all the knowledge about games. Dinosaurs, toy cars, but also sheets and colored pencils. Everything that is at home and that they like to bring don't leave it out, unless it's the last 80cm monster his grandmother gave him and it could be pretty bulky.

For the rest, the games to be played at the moment without any need are quite numerous. The evergreens like the Chinese morre (rock-paper-scissors), guessing what you are thinking, finding the word that starts with the last letter of the word said before or the thought association game are quite stimulating pastimes.

LIBRI & Co. - In the car it could be annoying (but it is not said), but in other means i books they are a very valid diversion, as well as some coloring sheets or some blank sheets where to draw or where, for the older ones, to take some interesting travel notes! Very useful can be the "lapbook", game books made at home, with cards where you can color, draw freely, write and stick stickers.

Furthermore, my son has often been more than enthusiastic about the road or city map that we would visit. Ask them to follow the route or for advice on where to go, you will see the contentment in their eyes!

FOOD and VARIOUS NUTS - Water, juices, snacks of all kinds are welcome to ward off hunger and spend those 10 more minutes of leisure! And it doesn't matter if the car turns into a hovel ...

BREAK - If you are driving, plan for frequent breaks. More than a stop for a pee, stretching your legs and maybe running a bit are a must. Maybe you can also stop for lunch, so the children can play a little outdoors. My little ones, for example, are crazy about spaghetti omelettes and that is also a reason to love a trip!

On the ship, walking can be easier, and you want to enjoy knowing all its secrets, seeing the sea everywhere, the land on the horizon. The aero is also stimulating, but it allows for "breaks" out of one's seat and then more restricted. So off your shoes and make yourself comfortable, do you know the story of the commander and of the whole fleet with their heads in the clouds…?

DVD AND VIDEO GAMES - Of course! What do you want it to be if your child is identified with another world for an hour? Everyone's serenity is at stake and then a nice movie or some game on dad's smartphone (or some more specific device for older children) is welcome for a while.

TRAVEL AT NIGHT - Have you ever thought about this solution? If you are not a professional dormouse, you like coffee and driving in the dark and there are at least two of you, traveling at night relieves you of a lot of trouble because if everything goes well, the children will sleep for the entire duration of the journey. And I say this from direct experience!
