In Brazil the law prohibits the child labor but unfortunately the rules are not respected and many children work illegally in dangerous and denigrating conditions. From this point of view, a great struggle for change is still needed in the country.

The subject of child labor has been the subject of in-depth analysis by our people correspondents from Brazil grazie al progetto Labor Court's Program to Combat Child Labor.

According to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) more than 3,3 million children and young people between 5 and 17 years are victims of exploitation of child labor. At least 70 of them have an age that does not exceed 9 years.

They are therefore children who are forced to work in the period of life when they should play and attend school. Children who work as slaves earn derisory bucks e they lose their childhood. They are victims of accidents and abuse.

In Brazil, unfortunately, over 12 accidents at work concern children. A new one is emerging in the country campaign against child labor, consisting of videos and commercials that will be broadcast on radio and television, as well as on social networks and in cinemas.

The campaign for fight child labor has the goal of sto raise public opinion on the problems arising from this phenomenon in Brazil. All children have the right to play, education and healthy growth.

Of the total number of exploited children, 49,8% are in rural areas, while 50,2% live in urban areas. 61% do not receive a fixed salary while 90% have a poor academic performance, precisely because the possibility of attending school is very limited or absent.

There is no shortage of legal references for the protection of children: there are international conventions and constitutional guarantees, yet the actions for the protection of minors are not fully carried out and everything remains on paper.

Second Katia Magalhães Arruda, in charge of the TST campaign to stop child labor, the exploitation of children in Brazil is a consequence of lack of democracy: "There is no full democracy and therefore child labor proliferates".

The hope is that the new campaign will bring results to protect the lives and health of children. The video of the TST campaign is already on Youtube and we can help spread it.
