Remember the wind mast we told you about a month ago? L'Wind Tree, invented by Jérôme Michaud-Larivière, it is capable of producing energy and will soon make its debut at Paris.

From 12 March to 12 May, the French capital will be the stage where the new tests of the special system will be carried out, which promises to produce energy using even very light winds and for most of the year.

No steel cables and turbines in sight. The only thing that those who pass by the Place de la Concorde will notice, will be a hi-tech tree, pleasing to the eye but above all useful, capable of producing and 3500 kWh at 13.500 kWh based on wind intensity for 280 days a year, instead of 110-120 days for current systems.

Wind Tree it is 11 meters high and 8 meters wide. Its 72 artificial leaves rotate in a vertical position in order to make the most of the breath of the wind, managing to work even at a speed of 2m / s as this shows video:

The manufacturing company, New Wind, has plans the installation of several trees in Paris but an obstacle for the future diffusion in the cities is currently the cost, estimated around 30 thousand euros. However, the manufacturer reassures, the system will be able to pay for itself in a few years thanks to the amount saved for energy. It has been designed to last over time (over 25 years) and withstand storms.

Each unit has cables and generators sealed in the steel housing. Each tree can be connected to both public networks and private homes and generate electricity for buildings or complexes. According to Larivière, the ideal destination for these turbines is the city, with small "forests" of wind trees, able to operate without producing emissions e without generating noise. There are those who would see them well even in public parks. They are certainly less invasive (and certainly less powerful) than large wind turbines but at the same time they are harmless to animals.

“The event, organized with the support of the City of Paris, will be a unique educational experience, but also the public dissemination of awareness of renewable energy, in the heart of the city. Place de la Concorde was the theater of Archereau's electrical experiments who created one of the first arc lamps, and it is here that the first public lighting in the city was installed in 1844 " explains New Wind. “On the eve of the COP 21, this event is a highlight for the attractiveness of Paris, which confirms itself as an innovative and sustainable city ”.

A new way to produce energy, taking advantage of what Nature gives us every day for free.
