To save one of the most famous monuments ofIndia, il Taj Mahal, Agra capital of the homonymous district could become aa 'solar' city. A destination for many tourists from all over the world, the mausoleum built in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife Arjumand Banu Begum, is at risk from pollution.

There have been many initiatives and projects to save the Taj, such as that of 2009 when a campaign was carried out by the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department and Organic India, to plant the tulasi, a medicinal plant similar to basil typical of Asia. The latter by releasing a large amount of oxygen has indeed reduced the negative impact of industrial and refinery emissions but the mausoleum is still at risk.

That's why you need one long-term solution and even more effective. So it was decided to make Agra a solar city. The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy recently approved a project to ensure that the city is powered exclusively by the energy produced by the sun. And apparently the times shouldn't be long. Although during the meeting, held in the Ministry last February, no dates were leaked, it seems that the detailed project report (DPR) should be ready and could soon be sent directly to the Union Government.

Agra unfortunately generates high concentrations of carbon monoxide. 5,5 million people live in the city and surrounding area and 7 million tourists arrive every year. It is therefore necessary to safeguard the symbolic monument of the country together with the health of its inhabitants.
