Homeless people face numerous challenges, including that of not have access to soap and water for the shower, as there are only about 20 shower cubicles in the city that they can use. However, former marketing executive Doniece Sandoval has chosen to do something to try and fix this problem. How? Starting Wash Mae, a project that aims to transform disused buses into showers on wheels for the homeless.

Sandoval came up with the idea after meeting a woman on the street who was crying because she couldn't wash herself. It was then that he began examining what opportunities were in the city for the homeless have a shower.

From him was born Lava Mae, to transform buses donated by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Administration. Sometimes it takes very little to change the life of those in difficulty.
