Has living in an amusement park always been your dream? If you have a couple of million to invest, you can now make it happen. Spreepark, an abandoned amusement park located in Berlin, was put up for sale on eBay for the sum of 1,62 million euros.
Built by the East German Communist government in 1969, Spreepark was originally known as Kulturpark Plänterwald, named after its neighborhood in south-east Berlin. At the time, it was the only permanent amusement park in the entire nation, featuring a Ferris wheel that still dominates the horizon today.
Seeing this place abandoned to itself, it is difficult to imagine crowds of children in celebration struggling with rides and delicacies. Everything became spooky, with the ponds now full of algae and buildings covered by vegetation and graffiti. Anyone who has had the opportunity to walk in this gloomy amusement park speaks of an extraordinary but particularly frightening experience.
The history of the park continues, after the reunification of the two Germanys, under the leadership of Norbert Witte. When he was arrested for cocaine smuggling, the park was permanently closed. It was 2002.
It seems, however, that young Berliners and fearless tourists continue to frequent it, as it is quite easy to jump the fence. This is demonstrated by the thousands of testimonials on social networks of users who have delved into it in recent years.
What will be of Spreepark now? Its new buyer will either bring it back to life or leave it as it is, fascinating and creepy?
