Un tree, even children know, it is the cradle of life with the production of oxygen and fruit. Inspired precisely by the ability of these creatures to generate something useful to man, a French engineer has been working for about three years on a very special tree, able with his leaves to produce energy thanks to the wind.

The startup, chiamata New Wind, created this special power generation system, Wind Tree, which in the shape resembles a tree, complete with a trunk, but with branches and leaves that act like so many mini-turbines. These micro-generators guarantee energy production practically all year round, even working at a speed of 2m / s. More than 320 days a year, instead of 110-120 days in current systems. There end of the era of intermittence wind power? Yes, according to its creator.

Founded by Jérôme Michaud-Larivière, the Breton company he designed Wind Tree ensures that the wind mast can be "implanted" both in the city and in the countryside. Telecom City Lannion (Brittany) has already been equipped with this system. “By taking advantage of the lower airflow, it can work with all types of wind at 360 °, in a turbulent and artificial environment but also urban and natural. The biomimicry-inspired design allows for seamless integration into all types of landscape, urban or rural. All technology is invisible. There are no cables or generators in sight, everything is integrated into the branches and trunks ", explains the official website.

Therefore canceled the noise of traditional wind turbines. By combining a large number of microturbines in an organic form, the Arbre à Vent is thus able to exploit all the kinetic energy and accumulate Watts by exploiting the movement of air. It has been designed to last over time (over 25 years) and withstand storms.

The price is about € 29.500 and the plant can produce from 3500 kWh to 13.500 kWh depending on the wind.

“One windless day I looked at the leaves and their scientific organization which seemed to be guided by an invisible force that moved them even with the slightest movement of air. I wondered how many watts it could produce. What if we gathered the energy? Multiplied by the number of leaves on a tree, what would it be? " said Jerome Michaud-Lariviere.

And the result is under our eyes. Not only photovoltaic trees and sunlight, then. Now even the breeze can be converted into electricity, without limits.
